Are you an avid audiobook-er who wants to support their local independent bookstore but aren’t sure how? Libro.fm is the answer. They have made it possible to tie your favorite indie to your account so when you purchase an audiobook through Libro.fm, your store of choice receives a percentage of the sale. If you are new to audiobooks it might come as a surprise to you to hear that some books are BETTER when consumed as an audio. A talented narrator, a certain accent, a cast of characters - all of these things can work together to create a magical “reading” experience. Here are six audiobooks we think are worth a listen.
Finding Grace by Loretta Rothschild
This one will have you gasping by the end of the first chapter. Honor and her husband Tom have been arguing back and forth about whether or not to have a second child. It would require an egg donor, a surrogate, so much time and money. But after an accident and a questionable decision by Tom, the family finds itself in a whole new world. The narrator’s British accent and the craziness of the story make this one a must-listen.
History of Sound by Ben Shattuck
One of my top ten reads (and my top listen) of 2024, Ben Shattuck’s short story collection is a great choice for audio. Not only are the stories captivating and thought-provoking and tender and true, each one is narrated by an all-star voice. Chris Cooper, Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Paul Mescal…the list goes on and on.
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
TJ Klune called this “an endearing fantasy version of Knives Out…” and that’s pretty much all it took to get this one added to my TBR. All the charm of your favorite cozy detective novels but with the world-building and magic of your favorite fantasy novels. What more could you ask for?
Slow Productivity by Cal Newport
There are many readers who think that non-fiction titles make the best audiobooks and our Justin is one of them. He says Slow Productivity is a great one to take on a nice, long walk.
Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon
What would happen if your most recent D&D campaign turned into a rom-com? Tusk Love is the answer. Narrated by Teddy Hamilton.
